My Approach to Data Protection Training
I make sure that my Data Protection training equips you with the knowledge and skills to comply with UK data protection requirements by explaining these requirements in plain English illustrated with lots of examples, making it easy for you to grasp and apply them in real-world scenarios. I also encourage questions and discussion, which allows attendees to relate the material to their own context. The small group sizes also make it easy for attendees to interact with each other and me.

All of my course prices are for single bookings. However, if you would like to organise training for more people I am happy to negotiate discounts for multiple bookings or to quote a price for ‘in-house’ training, which is likely to be cost-effective for four or more people.

GDPR Practitioner Certificate Courses
Five days of Advanced Data Protection Training
I deliver my Practitioner Courses on 5 days over 3 weeks: usually Tuesday, Thursday, Tuesday, Thursday, Tuesday, followed by a test.
This allows attendees to fit work commitments round the course and gives time for reflecting on, learning and questioning the course materials.

Some of our courses are certified by the Law Society of Scotland and should be booked directly through them. The next delivery dates for this are in March 2024. There is a small additional fee for the Law Society certification.
All deliveries of the course are endorsed by Training Qualifications UK (TQUK) and attendees are issued with their certificate, subject to passing the final test.
We are often asked if this course is only suitable in relation to Scottish law. Simply, data protection is the same across the UK.
We are also asked if this is suitable as data protection officer training. Realistically a five-day course cannot prepare someone to be a data protection officer. However, this course should prepare someone to fulfil this role as long as they are able to access additional support when needed. This is also the most popular of our GDPR courses for lawyers.

GDPR FOUNDATION Certificate Courses
One day of Data Protection Training
This is a one day course and is an intensive introduction to data protection. If you have no knowledge of data protection you will find this very hard work – even people with significant knowledge of the subject find plenty of useful material in it.

Introduction to Data Protection & the GDPR
This is a half day course explaining the main concepts, obligations and rights specified by the GDPR in a practical context

GDPR Workshop
This one day course is aimed at people with little or no knowledge of data protection.
It provides an overview of all the main elements of the GDPR and compliance, together with some practical exercises to ensure understanding.

Subject Access Requests – Managing Data Subjects’ Rights
This half-day course equips you to deal with all data subject rights in an efficient,sympathetic and compliant manner.

Data Protection and Direct Marketing
This is a half day course which covers the data protection issues around direct marketing. There is a great deal of confusion around this and the course clearly explains what you can and can’t do, taking account of the ICO’s guidance.

Data Protection: Medical Research & Clinical Trials
This is a one-day course which covers the data protection issues around conducting clinical trials. This is a highly regulated area, complicated by the international multi-site nature of most trials. There is a great deal of confusion around this and the course clearly explains what you can and can’t do, taking account of the ICO’s and the EDPB’s guidance.
