We are passionate about helping YOU get things right..

Computer Law Training is now the trading name of Tim Musson.

Until recently Computer Law Training Limited was a small (friendly) company based in central Scotland providing support (training and consultancy) in data protection understanding and compliance to organisations of all sizes in all sectors.  We had particular experience of supporting charities, law firms and finance organisations.  We provided training anywhere in the UK, Europe and further afield if booked (we have travelled as far as Doha to do training for the Qatar National Bank!). Established in 2010, the company was founded by Tim Musson with the aim of helping clients achieve their compliance with data protection laws by providing cost effective, no-nonsense training and support. To this end, aside from our accreditations and memberships, we signed up to the ICO “your data matters” pledge.

We strongly believe it makes good business sense to build customer confidence by complying with the law. Even better, go beyond the legal requirements and demonstrate best practice.  Currently, small businesses generally pay little attention to the problems and issues around data protection.  The ICO has been paying more attention to the small business sector….. we may be able to help you in this event…

After many years’ experience as a lecturer in diverse areas of computing in the Scottish university sector and completing a programme of study for Master of Laws degree (LLM) in IT and Telecoms Law, Tim founded Computer Law Training Ltd. He has been supporting businesses, charities and institutions in areas of information security and data protection (GDPR) as well as providing Data Protection training and CPD for lawyers, accountants and similar professions.

Until recently Tim was Convener of the Law Society of Scotland’s Privacy Law Committee, which deals with issues around data protection and other aspects of privacy, responding to consultations on new legislation proposed by the Scottish Parliament, the UK Parliament, the European Parliament and other bodies.  He held this position for over 6 years. He was also a member of the Law Society of Scotland’s Technology Law and Practice Committee. He is a Certified Information Privacy Professional/Europe (CIPP/E), a Certified Information Privacy Technologist (CIPT) and is certified by APMG International to deliver the ‘Certified GDPR Practitioner‘ course.

In August Tim and his family left the UK to live in the wonderful Caribbean island of St Lucia.  He now offers all of the same services as a sole trader … except, of course, in-person face-to-face events are now unlikely!

Alternatively, if you would like an informal, no-obligation chat about the Data Protection training I can provide, please book a time on a Monday, Wednesday or Friday and I would be delighted to explore possibilities.

Data Protection Consultancy / GDPR Consultancy

Currently, consultancy is normally provided online over the ‘phone, by videoconference or email. We don’t have the overheads that some of our competitors have and we seek to charge a fair price for our work –we act in a lawful, fair and transparent manner (sorry, we had to get some more GDPR references on the site!!). Every customer is different and each has different requirements. As such, we usually quote an ‘hourly rate’ and you pay for our time accordingly – almost like a “pay as you go” service. This means you are in control of your spend and there will be no additional charges or surprises.

A final thought…..

If you have been avoiding thinking about data protection, now is the time to start putting personal data audits, policies, procedures, processes and training in place.  The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) has been enforced since 25th May 2018, with potential penalties of £17.5M or 4% of global turnover.

We’re good at what we do….. so, Get in touch
